Dr. Tapan P. Patel, MD, PhD, is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon at Eye Consultants of Pennsylvania. He specializes in medical and surgical care of the retina and vitreous, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes, and epiretinal membranes. Dr. Patel completed a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University after ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center. He earned his MD and PhD in Bioengineering from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Delaware. Dr. Jordan Deaner is a board-certified ophthalmologist and retina specialist at Wills Eye Hospital, where he cares for patients with complex retinal and uveitis conditions. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh and Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, where he was elected to both Alpha Omega Alpha and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Deaner completed his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital, serving as co-chief resident, followed by a fellowship in uveitis and ocular inflammatory disease at the Cole Eye Institute of the Cleveland Clinic and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Duke University Eye Center. His practice focuses on macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes and puckers, retinal detachments, complications of cataract surgery, and inflammatory and infectious diseases inside the eye. Dr. Rupak K. Bhuyan is a vitreoretinal surgeon who treats the full spectrum of medical and surgical retina disease. He cares for patients with diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusions, and complications such as epiretinal membranes and macular holes. His surgical practice includes repair of retinal tears and retinal detachments, with a focus on visual recovery and durable results. Dr. Bhuyan’s approach emphasizes clear education and the principle that every patient always deserves the best care. Dr. Bhuyan graduated summa cum laude from Harvard University and earned his medical degree at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Ajay E. Kuriyan is a board-certified vitreoretinal surgeon at Mid Atlantic Retina and a member of the Retina Service at Wills Eye Hospital. He cares for the full spectrum of medical and surgical retina disease, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal vein occlusions, and uveitis. Drew H. Scoles, MD, PhD, is a vitreoretinal surgeon and physician with the Division of Ophthalmology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He cares for pediatric and adolescent patients with retinal disorders, combining advanced imaging with evidence-based treatments tailored to the needs of growing eyes. Dr. Scoles earned his MD and PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rochester, completed internship at Lankenau Hospital, ophthalmology residency at the Scheie Eye Institute (University of Pennsylvania), and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship with Associated Retinal Consultants. Dr. David Fell is a retina specialist who completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Southwestern, followed by a uveitis fellowship at the Cole Eye Institute in Cleveland and a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Tufts Medical Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. He is a member of several ophthalmic societies, including the American Society of Retina Specialists and the American Uveitis Society, and has authored over 20 publications, abstracts, and textbook chapters on vitreoretinal and inflammatory diseases. Actively involved in clinical research, Dr. Fell has served as an investigator in more than 25 clinical trials for conditions such as age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. He is dedicated to expanding access to ophthalmic care, having participated in surgical missions in the Dominican Republic and planning to provide care in Ghana in August 2025.

David R.P. Almeida, MD, MBA, PhD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist and vitreoretinal surgeon dedicated to caring for diseases of the retina, vitreous and macula while advancing sight-saving therapies through clinical research. As Director of Clinical Research at Erie Retina Research, he leads a fast-paced program bringing cutting-edge surgical and pharmaceutical studies to the Erie region. Dr. Almeida’s background spans an Honors BSc from the University of Toronto, a PhD in pharmaceutical drug research from the University of Szeged, an MBA in healthcare management from The George Washington University, medical school and ophthalmology residency at Queen’s University, and a vitreoretinal disease and surgery fellowship at the University of Iowa. He has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed publications and delivered over 150 national and international presentations. Dr. Amy Q. Lu is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist with a focus on medical retina and uveitis. She treats common and complex disorders that affect the retina and vitreous, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disease, and inflammatory eye conditions. Dr. Lu combines detailed imaging, evidence-based therapies, and a calm, collaborative style to create treatment plans that fit each person’s life and goals. Dr. Lu earned both an MD and a PhD from Penn State College of Medicine, completed an internal medicine year and ophthalmology residency at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, and finished fellowship training in medical retina at the National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health. Christopher M. Bair, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained vitreoretinal specialist dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous. He provides meticulous, technology-forward care for conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, and complex macular disorders. Dr. Bair completed a Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship at the Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah. Dr. Marie-Hélène Errera is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she focuses on retinal and vitreous conditions. Her clinical practice encompasses the diagnosis and management of complex retinal disorders, and she serves both adult and pediatric patients through the Retina and Vitreoretinal Surgery Service and the Pediatric Ophthalmology Service. She holds an MD, a PharmD, and a PhD, and completed fellowships at Médecine Sorbonne University and Moorfields Eye Hospital. Dr. Errera is a member of the American Uveitis Society and contributes to the field as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Ophthalmic Inflammation and Infection. Dr. Hassan Khojasteh is a fellowship-trained retina specialist with a robust background in academic ophthalmology, advanced retinal surgery, and clinical research. His training includes advanced fellowships at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute—consistently ranked the #1 eye hospital in the United States—and Stanford University School of Medicine, where he gained extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of complex retinal diseases and multidisciplinary care. Dr. Khojasteh previously served as a faculty member at the renowned Farabi Eye Hospital and Tehran University of Medical Sciences, where he played a leading role in training ophthalmology residents and retina fellows. He also served as Director of Electrophysiology and Inherited Retinal Diseases, overseeing the diagnosis and management of complex genetic and electrophysiologic retinal conditions. Throughout his career, he has contributed extensively to the field of retina through peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and invited lectures, and continues to serve as a reviewer for leading ophthalmology journals.
