Harrison Sciulli, MD, is a vitreoretinal specialist committed to protecting and restoring sight for patients across central Ohio. He joined The Retina Group after completing a retina fellowship at Retina Associates of Cleveland and looks forward to caring for patients at the practice’s Neil Avenue, McNaughten Road, Delaware and Newark locations. Dr. Sciulli earned his medical degree from the University of Cincinnati and completed his undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University. He provides comprehensive medical, laser and surgical care for macular, retinal and vitreous disorders, and takes time to explain imaging, treatment options and follow-up so patients and families know what to expect. Whether addressing urgent symptoms such as new flashes and floaters or managing chronic conditions like macular degeneration, his goal is to combine clear communication with precise, evidence-based care. Outside the clinic, he enjoys trivia, weightlifting, fishing and reading.

Dr. Denis Huang is an ophthalmologist with a focus on diseases and surgery of the retina and macula. He cares for patients with age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachment, macular hole or pucker, and other vitreoretinal problems. His approach blends careful examination and advanced imaging with treatments such as intravitreal injections, retinal laser, and, when appropriate, minimally invasive vitrectomy to preserve or improve vision. Dr. Huang earned his medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and completed ophthalmology residency at the University of California, Davis after undergraduate studies at Brown University. Dr. Elizabeth Shanika Esparaz is a fellowship-trained retina specialist who provides comprehensive eye care and cataract surgery, with advanced expertise in medical retina. She completed her ophthalmology and vitreoretinal training at Boston University and brings a technology-forward approach to diagnosing and treating retinal disease. Dr. Esparaz cares for patients with conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal tears, and she also treats retinal vein occlusions and macular swelling. She is committed to compassionate, patient-centered care and was recognized during medical school with induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Matthew J. Byun is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in retina and vitreous diseases. He received his undergraduate degree with Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State University and his medical degree from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. After a surgical internship at Mount Carmel Health System, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Cincinnati, where he served as chief resident, followed by a medical and surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at a combined program of the University of Illinois at Chicago and University Retina and Macula Associates. Dr. Byun has a special interest in the medical and surgical diseases of the retina, vitreous, and macula, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusion, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, and retinal detachment. He is dedicated to providing the most up-to-date and highest quality medical and surgical care to his patients. Dr. Byun is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and holds professional memberships with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retinal Specialists. He has been an investigator in many clinical trials for age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy and has presented at several institutions and meetings, publishing multiple peer-reviewed articles.

Mashal Akhter, MD, is a vitreoretinal surgeon who treats the full spectrum of medical and surgical retina conditions. Her interests include age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, macular hole and epiretinal membrane, ocular inflammatory disease, and complex retinal detachment repair. Patients value her combination of technical skill and steady, compassionate communication throughout evaluation, treatment, and follow-up. Dr. Akhter earned her medical degree from Northeast Ohio Medical University and completed ophthalmology residency at the Kresge Eye Institute/Wayne State University School of Medicine, where she was recognized by her peers for compassionate care. She then completed a fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the University of Southern California Roski Eye Institute, serving as chief fellow. She is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and sees patients across several Central Ohio locations.

Reece Bergstrom, DO, is an ophthalmologist with specialized training in retina who provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for retinal disorders. He routinely evaluates and treats diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, epiretinal membrane, uveitis, retinal detachment, and other conditions that threaten central and peripheral vision. Baha El Khatib, MD, is a retina specialist and board-certified ophthalmologist at Vitreo-Retinal Consultants. Dr. El Khatib offers advanced diagnostics, in-office injection therapies, laser procedures, and vitreoretinal surgery, and works closely with referring doctors to provide timely, coordinated care. Dr. Mary-Grace Reeves is a vitreoretinal surgeon in training who cares for patients with medical and surgical diseases of the retina. She works with individuals facing urgent or complex problems—such as retinal tears, detachments, or advanced diabetic eye disease—and takes time to explain imaging, treatment choices, and recovery in plain language. Dr. Reeves completed her ophthalmology residency at Washington University in St. Louis and is pursuing a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute. Her interests include trauma care and education, and she collaborates closely with referring optometrists and primary eye care providers to streamline follow-up after procedures. Dr. Lewis received his BS degree magna cum laude from Xavier University and his MD degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. His ophthalmology residency was at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and his vitreoretinal surgery fellowship was at the University of Chicago. He has been named as a Top Doctor in Cleveland by his peers and was featured in Cleveland Magazine. Dr. Lewis's principal areas of interest are macular surgery, retinal detachment surgery, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal lasers.
