Dr. Shane Seipel is a cornea and external diseases specialist whose practice focuses on medical and surgical care of the cornea and ocular surface. He completed his medical education at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, followed by residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and fellowship training at the University of California, Davis. Patients see Dr. Seipel for conditions such as keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, infections, and scarring, as well as for guidance on vision-restoring procedures when the cornea becomes cloudy or misshapen. In the clinic, he emphasizes careful diagnosis, clear education, and step-wise treatment plans that can include protective therapies for the ocular surface, in-office procedures, or advanced surgical options such as corneal transplantation or cross-linking when indicated. Christine Martinez, MD, is a cornea and external disease specialist who partners with patients to restore clarity and comfort to the ocular surface. She offers a full range of medical and surgical options, from cataract surgery to complex corneal transplantation (including PKP, DALK, DSEK, and DMEK), and performs pterygium excision, corneal cross-linking for keratoconus, limbal stem cell transplantation, and removal of ocular surface tumors. Dr. Martinez practices in a collaborative academic environment, which means patients benefit from the latest diagnostics, technology, and multidisciplinary input for challenging cases. She enjoys guiding people through their choices, explaining each step, and aligning treatment with their vision goals and daily activities. Her training includes ophthalmology residency at Ohio State and a cornea fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. In addition to adult care, she treats cornea conditions in younger patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Mauricio A. Perez, M.D., is an ophthalmologist at Cincinnati Eye Institute who specializes in complex cataract surgery, anterior segment reconstruction, and corneal and refractive surgery. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Chile, followed by four years of advanced fellowship training in Chile, the United States, and Canada at institutions including Fundación Oftalmológica Los Andes, the University of Cincinnati, and the University of Toronto. Dr. Perez has served as a staff specialist at the Sydney Eye Hospital and is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists. He is also a faculty member at the University of Cincinnati and teaches fellow surgeons through the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. An accomplished academic, he has authored peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and serves as a reviewer for leading ophthalmology journals. Outside of his professional work, he enjoys traveling with his family, playing guitar and piano, and is passionate about basketball. He was named to The Ophthalmologist's "Top 40 Under 40" Power List in 2015 in recognition of his contributions to the field.
