Dr. Konstantin Astafurov is a fellowship-trained retina specialist at Monmouth Retina. He provides comprehensive medical and surgical care for diseases of the macula, retina, and vitreous. Dr. Astafurov completed a medical retina fellowship at the Mayo Clinic and a two-year surgical retina fellowship at NJRetina/Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School after ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University and internship at Maimonides Medical Center. He earned both his MD and PhD at SUNY Downstate, where his doctoral work explored inflammation’s effects on the retina and optic nerve. Patients appreciate his combination of scientific rigor and practical, patient-first communication. He collaborates closely with referring providers to coordinate timely treatment and long-term follow-up that protects vision.

Dr. Justin Arnett is a vitreoretinal surgeon who treats medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous with a steady, detail-oriented approach. His clinical interests include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and detachments, and complex macular disorders. Dr. David A. Salz is a board-certified ophthalmologist who joined The Eye Specialists in 2015. He specializes in medical retina, treating conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration, and also performs LASIK and cataract surgery. Dr. Salz is skilled in using advanced lens implants, including multifocal, astigmatism-correcting (Toric), and extended-range-of-focus (Symfony) lenses, to help patients achieve their best possible vision. He completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at Boston University, graduating summa cum laude at the top of his class. Dr. Vincent Y. Ho is a retina specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon at NJRetina, where he joined in 2016. He earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering cum laude from the Schreyer Honors College at Pennsylvania State University, with memberships in Phi Eta Sigma and Omega Chi Epsilon honor societies. Dr. Ho graduated with honors from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, receiving distinctions including Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, the Arnold P. Gold Foundation Gold Humanism Honor Society, and a leadership award for his role as class president. His medical training includes a transitional year at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, an ophthalmology residency at Emory University, and a prestigious fellowship in vitreoretinal disease and surgery at The Retina Institute in St. Louis. Dr. Ho actively contributes to retinal care through numerous publications, participation in clinical trials, and presentations at national and international meetings on conditions such as retinal detachments, macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy. Serving on the medical staff of Clara Maass Medical Center and Bergen Passaic Cataract Surgery and Laser Center, Dr. Ho is dedicated to advanced surgical techniques and ocular imaging. Dr. Kush Patel is a vitreoretinal surgeon at Virginia Retina Specialists who provides comprehensive care for diseases of the retina and vitreous. He completed ophthalmology residency at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, serving as chief resident and being recognized as the Outstanding Graduate. He then pursued a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at NJRetina in New Brunswick, New Jersey, gaining extensive experience with complex surgical cases and participating in multicenter clinical trials. Dr. Patel is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is excited to care for the community where he grew up.

Dr. Tian Xia is a retinal specialist and ophthalmologist caring for patients at Retina Vitreous Consultants in Livingston and Morristown, New Jersey. She treats a wide range of medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous, with a focus on helping patients preserve and improve their vision over the long term. Dr. Xia earned her medical degree from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, where she also completed her ophthalmology residency after an internship at Overlook Medical Center. Dr. Neal S. Patel is a retina specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon at NJRetina. Dr. Ravi Patel is a Jacksonville-native ophthalmologist focusing on cornea, cataract, and comprehensive eye care. He is one of the founding partners of Florida Eye Specialists and started Eagle Eyecare in 2009 to bring quality compassionate eye care to the Riverside area. He is a board-certified ophthalmic surgeon fellowship-trained in cataract, cornea, and refractive surgery. Dr. Patel has completed over 10,000 cataract surgeries and performs all types of corneal transplants, including PKP, DSAEK, DMEK, and PDEK. He is considered an expert in the treatment of keratoconus. His leadership roles include Chief of Ophthalmology at Baptist Health and President of the Duval Society of Ophthalmology. Dr. Ahsan Hussain is a vitreoretinal surgeon who manages both urgent and chronic diseases of the retina and vitreous. He provides comprehensive care for diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes and epiretinal membranes, and vascular occlusions—offering office-based laser and injection therapies as well as advanced microsurgery. Dr. Justin Gutman is a retina specialist who has been practicing ophthalmology and vitreoretinal surgery for seven years. He joins the Retina Center of New Jersey after gaining experience in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Dallas, Texas. He is fluent in Spanish and sees patients at multiple offices in New Jersey, including Bloomfield, North Bergen, Ramsey, Teaneck, and Union. Dr. Gutman is committed to providing access to leading-edge clinical research trials for his patients. During his time in Dallas and Fort Worth, he ran the retina service at two of the largest county hospitals, which are tertiary referral centers. This role exposed him to the most complex medical and surgical retinal conditions. Prior to that, he served as chief resident at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, in 2013, treating a diverse patient population from around the world. Dr. Gutman completed his transitional internship in San Bernardino, California, earned his medical degree at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, and graduated cum laude from the University of Florida. Born and raised in New York, he moved back to the Northeast to be closer to family after the birth of his son in 2016 and is dedicated to serving patients in northern New Jersey.

Dr. Tamara Lee Lenis is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in retina and vitreoretinal surgery at NJRetina. She brings extensive training, having earned her medical degree from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and completed her ophthalmology residency at the UCLA Stein Eye Institute, where she also received a Ph.D. Her advanced fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery was conducted at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Dr. Lenis has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Heed Foundation Fellowship and the Excellence in Research Award from Stein Eye Institute. She is an active researcher, having authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and presented at major conferences such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Lenis is a member of key professional societies including the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Outside of medicine, she enjoys art, yoga, running, and spending time with family.

Dr. Mallick is a certified Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellowship trained Retina specialist. He has been practicing Retina surgery since 2017 and comes to join the Retina Center of New Jersey after working in both Albany, NY and Columbus, OH. Dr. Mallick graduated summa cum laude from an accelerated 7 year BS/MD Program at the City College of New York/Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education. He earned his medical degree with honors from SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, NY. He completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at North Shore - Long Island Jewish Health System where he was selected by his peers to serve as Chief Resident. He went on to a coveted 2-year Vitreo-Retinal fellowship at the Ohio State University. There he was regarded for his excellence in teaching and clinical care. Simultaneously he was an investigator in many clinical trials on the cutting edge of retina care, including wet AMD, Dry AMD, Vein Occlusions and Diabetes. He has authored and co-authored many peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and presented his work at national and international meetings. Dr. Mallick was born and raised in New York. After the birth of his second child, he is moving back to the area to be close to family. Dr Mallick is also fluent in English, Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi. Outside of work, his interests include traveling, motorsports, and spending time with his wife and 2 children.

Dr. Boleslav Kotlyar is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Vitreous Retina Macula Specialists of New Jersey, where he specializes in diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, he emigrated to the United States in 1993 and attended Stuyvesant High School. He then pursued undergraduate studies at New York University, completing his degree in just three years cum laude with a major in biology and a minor in history. His interest in retina care was sparked while working as the head ophthalmic technician and photographer at a retina practice in Brooklyn, which inspired him to study medicine at SUNY Buffalo. During medical school, Dr. Kotlyar served as president of both the Surgery Interest Group and the Ophthalmology Interest Group. He completed his preliminary internal medicine year at Newark Beth Israel in Newark, New Jersey, where he was honored with the Preliminary Medicine Intern of the Year award. He then completed his ophthalmology residency at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, New York, followed by a fellowship in adult and pediatric vitreoretinal surgery at Retina Consultants Limited/Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Dr. Kotlyar is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. Fluent in English and Russian with basic Spanish skills, he enjoys traveling, Ultimate Frisbee, cooking, and science fiction outside of his medical practice.
