Dr. Kenneth J. Taubenslag is a vitreoretinal surgeon and uveitis specialist with the University of Maryland Medical System. Dr. Lauren S. Taney is an ophthalmologist who specializes in the diagnosis and management of medical retinal conditions, including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, inherited retinal disease, and retinal tears. She also practices comprehensive ophthalmology and works closely with patients to explain findings and create clear, practical treatment plans. Dr. Heather M. Tamez is a retina specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon who cares for patients with a wide range of vitreoretinal diseases. Her clinical focus includes diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes and puckers, and retinal vascular disorders. Dr. Tamez also has extensive experience managing ocular trauma and complications after cataract surgery, including situations where an intraocular lens could not be placed during the initial operation. Dr. Sidney “Sid” Schechet is a board-certified retina specialist with Elman Retina Group, providing both medical and surgical care for retinal and vitreous diseases. He treats common and complex conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and macular edema, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, and retinal detachment. Dr. Schechet earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine and completed ophthalmology residency at the University of Maryland, where he served as chief resident. He then completed a two-year retina fellowship at The University of Chicago. His clinical approach focuses on careful diagnosis, clear communication, and personalized treatment plans that may include retinal laser, injections, or vitrectomy surgery when appropriate. He has contributed to retina research and book chapters, and he enjoys helping patients protect vision and stay active in the activities they value.

Dr. Erwin Puente is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon who cares for conditions affecting the retina and vitreous. He brings a strong research background to clinical care, having completed both an MD and a PhD through Washington University in St. Louis’ Medical Scientist Training Program. His doctoral work focused on molecular cell biology and the pathophysiology of diabetes. Dr. Tiarnán Keenan is a staff clinician and Stadtman Investigator at the National Eye Institute whose work centers on adult retinal disease, particularly age-related macular degeneration (AMD). His clinical and research program spans genetics, biochemistry, imaging, epidemiology, and clinical trials to improve diagnosis, understand mechanisms, and develop more effective prevention and treatment strategies for AMD, including geographic atrophy. Dr. Keenan received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Oxford. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Manchester for biochemical analyses of human macular tissue related to AMD and completed fellowship training in medical retinal disease at the National Eye Institute. His prior academic-clinical training included work at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and the Oxford Eye Hospital, and he is a fellow of the UK Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Dr. David Dao is a dual-fellowship trained ophthalmologist specializing in vitreoretinal surgery and uveitis. He cares for adults with complex retinal and inflammatory eye diseases, offering both advanced medical therapy and state-of-the-art surgical treatment. Dr. Collin R. Ohning is a retina specialist dedicated to diagnosing and treating medical and surgical diseases of the vitreous and retina. He received his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina, completed internship and ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida, and pursued fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at the Retina Group of Washington/Georgetown University. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Ohning was born in Charleston, South Carolina and moved to Greenville over two decades ago. He attended Kenyon College where he was a collegiate Academic All-American swimmer. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he studied at the Medical University of South Carolina for his medical degree. Dr. Ohning is glad to be back in South Carolina serving the Upstate. He cares for patients with both common and complex retinal conditions and believes that clear explanations, advanced imaging, and precise, minimally invasive techniques lead to the best outcomes. When not working, he enjoys golf, basketball, and spending quality time with his family and friends.

Dr. Mohsin H. Ali is a board-certified retina specialist and vitreoretinal surgeon with the Retina Group of Washington. He manages the full spectrum of medical and surgical retina disease, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, retinal detachment, macular hole and epiretinal membrane, uveitis, and complex vitreoretinal trauma. Dr. Daliya Dzhaber is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Chesapeake Eye Care and Laser Center who cares for adults with both front-of-the-eye and retinal conditions. She specializes in cataract surgery, including laser-assisted techniques, as well as cornea and refractive surgery, uveitis, and medical retina. Originally from Russia, Dr. Dzhaber graduated summa cum laude from Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia School of Medicine and completed an ophthalmology residency at the S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution, where she served as chief resident. She then completed research and clinical fellowships in cornea, uveitis, and medical retina at Wilmer Eye Institute, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, the University of Washington, and Duke Eye Center. Dr. Dzhaber is active in professional societies, has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and enjoys working closely with patients and their families to explain conditions and treatment options clearly so they feel informed and supported at every visit.
