Dr. Levi Kanu is a fellowship-trained cornea specialist with expertise in corneal transplantation, cataract surgery, refractive procedures, and the treatment of complex ocular surface diseases. He combines surgical excellence with a commitment to advancing ocular drug delivery through translational research. Dr. Kanu earned his undergraduate degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering from Johns Hopkins University and completed his medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania. He went on to train in ophthalmology at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, followed by a prestigious cornea fellowship. As a clinician-scientist and NIH/NEI-funded K12 Vision Scholar, Dr. Kanu’s research focuses on innovative treatments for corneal disease, including drug delivery technologies targeting conditions like neurotrophic keratopathy. His goal is to bridge laboratory discoveries with real-world impact, bringing meaningful therapies to patients with vision-threatening disorders. Dr. Kanu is passionate about delivering compassionate, evidence-based care while advancing the science of ophthalmology through thoughtful innovation.

Dr. Jose R. Davila is a vitreoretinal surgeon who manages both medical and surgical diseases of the retina, including retinal detachment, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular occlusions. His research interests span global ophthalmology, tele-retinal imaging, and surgical education.

Dr. Grayson Armstrong is a Harvard-trained ophthalmologist and public health leader focused on expanding access to eye care through innovation and policy. He earned his MD and MPH from Harvard, advising global organizations on refugee health and health systems. He completed residency at Harvard Ophthalmology, where he served as Chief Resident and led the Ocular Trauma Service at Mass Eye and Ear. A leader in organized medicine, he sits on the Board of Trustees of the American Medical Association. Dr. Armstrong is the founder of Ocular Technologies and a nationally recognized expert in telemedicine, AI, and digital health. He has published extensively and speaks nationally on emerging models of eye care.

Aaron R. Kaufman, MD, is a cornea and cataract surgeon who blends advanced microsurgical skill with a calm, patient-first approach. He helps people see clearly again with procedures ranging from modern cataract surgery to corneal transplantation and laser vision correction, and he explains options in plain language so patients can choose what fits their goals and lifestyle. A Cincinnati native, Dr. Kaufman completed both his BA and MD through the accelerated Boston University program before ophthalmology residency at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. He then pursued fellowship training in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, where he also contributed to clinical research and earned multiple recognitions.

Elli A. Park, MD, is a comprehensive ophthalmologist with Boston University Eye Associates. She provides thorough medical and surgical eye care for adults, including evaluation of cataracts and glaucoma, management of diabetic eye disease and uveitis, and treatment of common ocular surface and eyelid conditions. Dr. Park enjoys helping patients understand their exam findings and options so they can make comfortable, well-informed decisions about their vision. Dr. Park earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed ophthalmology residency at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. As part of an academic eye care team, she works closely with optometry and subspecialty colleagues to coordinate care, from routine exams to complex referrals. Her approach combines up-to-date techniques with an easy-to-follow, step-wise plan tailored to each patient’s needs and goals.

Dr. Ilya Leskov is a board-certified, fellowship-trained specialist in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. He diagnoses and treats conditions affecting the retina, macula, and vitreous, combining careful in-office evaluation with advanced medical and surgical retina care when needed. Patients see him for problems such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusions, uveitis, macular holes, and retinal tears or detachments. Dr. Leskov also has a special interest in managing complications from cataract surgery, including displaced intraocular lenses. He completed a combined MD-PhD program at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by ophthalmology residency training at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Northwestern University. He is fluent in Russian and French and sees patients in SUNY Downstate faculty practices in Brooklyn.

Dr. Jenny Dohlman is a pediatric ophthalmologist with additional training in adult oculoplastic and orbital surgery. She cares for babies, children, and adolescents with common and complex conditions, and works closely with families to explain diagnoses and next steps in plain language. Her approach emphasizes safety, comfort, and thoughtful follow-up, whether she is monitoring a blocked tear duct, treating an infection, or planning specialized surgery. Dr. Dohlman earned her medical degree from Yale, completed ophthalmology residency at Mass Eye and Ear/Harvard Medical School, and pursued fellowships in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at Boston Children’s Hospital and in orbital and oculoplastic surgery at the Krieger Eye Institute/Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. Dr. Rebecca Soares is a vitreoretinal surgeon dedicated to the medical and surgical care of retinal diseases, with a focus on compassionate, state-of-the-art treatment. She graduated summa cum laude from Yale University and earned her MD and MPH magna cum laude from Emory University School of Medicine. Her postgraduate training includes an internal medicine internship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital, and a vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at Wills Eye Hospital Mid Atlantic Retina. Dr. Soares specializes in managing conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, macular holes, macular puckers, and retinal detachments. She utilizes advanced therapies including anti-VEGF injections, laser procedures, and small-incision vitrectomy, aiming to combine technical excellence with clear patient communication and supportive follow-up. Beyond clinical practice, she is an active researcher with numerous peer-reviewed publications and has received national honors like the Retina Society’s Fellowship Research Award. Dr. Michael Lin is a glaucoma specialist at Massachusetts Eye and Ear and an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. He cares for patients with all forms of glaucoma, offering individualized treatment plans that may include medications and a wide range of glaucoma procedures, including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). Dr. Isaiah W. Giese is an ophthalmologist and oculofacial plastic surgeon at D’Ambrosio Eye Care, offering reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid, facial, and orbital procedures. He helps patients address functional concerns—such as droopy eyelids, eyelids that turn inward or outward, and tearing problems—as well as complex reconstructive needs after trauma, tumors, or skin cancer around the eye. Dr. Sana Qureshi is a cataract, cornea, and refractive surgeon who cares for adults with a wide range of vision needs. She offers surgical treatments for complex cataracts, laser-assisted cataract surgery, and LASIK and other laser vision correction options. Her corneal expertise includes advanced procedures such as endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK, DSAEK) and corneal collagen cross-linking for keratoconus. Dr. Qureshi completed an ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center, where she served as chief resident, followed by a cornea and refractive surgery fellowship at Harvard Medical School. She earned her medical degree with distinction in Clinical Investigation from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and graduated magna cum laude from New York University. She stays active in research and education and is involved with national ophthalmic societies. Dr. James Anthony Stefater is a retina specialist who diagnoses and treats diseases of the retina and vitreous, with particular interest in complex surgical cases. He also cares for patients with common sight-threatening conditions such as macular degeneration and diabetic eye disease, focusing on practical plans that preserve vision and support long-term eye health. Dr. Stefater completed ophthalmology residency and vitreoretinal fellowship training at Massachusetts Eye and Ear at Harvard Medical School. He earned his MD and PhD through the Medical Scientist Training Program at the University of Cincinnati, where his doctoral research focused on retinal blood vessel development. He is active in national ophthalmology societies, has authored numerous publications, and has presented widely. He also helps advance new approaches to retina surgery aimed at reducing the post-operative burden for patients.

Dr. Thuzar Thein is a comprehensive ophthalmologist at Mass Eye and Ear and an instructor in ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. She provides complete eye care with a focus on cataract evaluation and surgery, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of common eye conditions. Dr. Thein earned a BA in Neuroscience from Amherst College and a PhD in Neuroscience from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine before completing her medical degree at Harvard Medical School. She went on to an internship at Mount Auburn Hospital and ophthalmology residency at Yale School of Medicine. This combination of rigorous scientific training and surgical experience informs a careful, evidence-based approach to each visit. Dr. Thein is committed to education—making time to answer questions, set expectations, and discuss lens choices and recovery—and she collaborates with colleagues across Mass General Brigham to coordinate subspecialty care when needed. She welcomes new patients in Boston and Stoneham.

Clifford B. Kim, MD, is an Ophthalmology Hospitalist at Mass Eye and Ear and an Instructor in Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. He provides emergency eye care and inpatient consultation for patients admitted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital, and teaches fellows and residents in the Mass Eye and Ear Emergency Department. Patients and trainees alike benefit from his experience with urgent ophthalmic conditions and his interest in telemedicine. Dr. Kim earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School and completed ophthalmology residency through Harvard Ophthalmology after an internship at Cambridge Health Alliance. During training he conducted translational research on neovascular retinopathies and ocular hypertension and has authored peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Peter Y. Chang is a retina and uveitis specialist who cares for patients with complex inflammatory eye disease and conditions that affect the retina and vitreous. He treats problems such as uveitis, scleritis, autoimmune retinopathy, retinal tears and detachments, macular holes and epiretinal membranes, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, and age-related macular degeneration. He also manages routine and complex cataracts and complications involving intraocular lenses. Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, Dr. Chang moved to the United States as a teenager and now considers New England his second home. He earned his undergraduate degree from Brown University and his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed a clinical research fellowship in uveitis and ocular immunology at MERSI, ophthalmology residency training at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, and vitreoretinal surgery fellowship training at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. He joined MERSI as a partner in 2016 and later became co-president of the practice.

Dr. Austin Meeker is a cornea and comprehensive ophthalmology specialist who provides medical and surgical care for corneal and anterior segment conditions. At Mass Eye and Ear, he serves as Associate Fellowship Director for the Cornea Fellowship and sees patients at the Boston, Foxborough, and Lexington locations. His clinical work spans routine and complex cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, refractive surgery, and reconstruction of the anterior segment. Dr. Meeker earned his medical degree from the State University of New York Upstate Medical University, completed ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital—where he also served as chief resident—and pursued fellowship training in Cornea and External Disease at Duke Eye Center. He emphasizes clear communication, shared decision-making, and using proven technologies to achieve excellent visual outcomes tailored to each patient’s goals.

Dr. Ryan Gise is an attending physician in the Department of Ophthalmology at Boston Children’s Hospital and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. He cares for children with complex vision and eye health concerns, including problems that involve the connection between the eyes and the nervous system. Dr. Gise treats conditions such as optic neuritis, retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), and eye alignment and vision development issues like strabismus and amblyopia. He values the long-term impact of pediatric care and finds it especially rewarding to support children as they grow and develop. His training includes pediatrics, ophthalmology, and fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology and pediatric ophthalmology, helping him coordinate care with families and the broader medical team.

Dr. Nimesh (Nemo) Patel is a vitreoretinal specialist who treats medical and surgical diseases of the retina in both adults and children. His goal is to provide high-quality, individualized care that is grounded in careful listening and clear explanations. He has expertise in conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, and macular hole, and he also cares for patients with ocular trauma and retinopathy of prematurity. In addition to his work at Mass Eye and Ear, he is involved with pediatric retina care at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Patel is active in clinical and basic science research and has published peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters on topics including surgical techniques, retinal vascular disease, intraocular lenses, retinal imaging, and ocular infections. He is frequently invited to present at local, national, and international conferences.

Dr. Laurel Tillinghast Tainsh is a comprehensive ophthalmologist at Mass Eye and Ear who specializes in cataract surgery and general eye care. She serves as Director of Quality for Ophthalmology at Mass Eye and Ear and is an Instructor in Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. Her practice includes annual and diabetic eye exams, management of chronic eye problems, and cataract evaluation and surgery, with a focus on education and shared decision-making so patients feel prepared at every step. Dr. Tainsh earned BA, MD, and MHS degrees from Harvard College and Yale University, completed internship at Yale–New Haven Hospital, and finished ophthalmology residency through Harvard Medical School. Before residency, she conducted NIH-funded research in glaucoma and retinal cell science and received several academic awards. Today she combines that scholarly foundation with a warm, practical approach to care, coordinating with subspecialists across Mass Eye and Ear when advanced treatment is needed and helping each patient choose the option that best supports their vision and lifestyle.

Born and raised in Rhode Island, Dr. Benjamin Botsford joined the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at UMass Chan Medical School in the summer of 2022. He is delighted to serve the ophthalmology needs of a diverse patient population and collaborate with his colleagues at the UMass Memorial Eye Center. Dr. Botsford graduated Phi Beta Kappa from New York University with a degree in neuroscience and received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and a vitreoretinal fellowship at NY Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center. He has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters and has presented at numerous regional and national conferences. He has volunteered at a diabetes outreach clinic for Veterans Inc. in Worcester, performing ophthalmology screenings for veterans and their families. He also presented on "Diabetes and Your Eyes" for the UMass Memorial Eye Center's patient webinar series. With a special interest in retinal disease and macular degeneration, Dr. Botsford looks forward to providing medical and surgical care to the community and teaching ophthalmology residents at the Hahnemann and Northborough offices.

Dr. Crandall E. Peeler is an ophthalmologist who specializes in neuro-ophthalmology, caring for patients with vision problems related to the brain, optic nerve, and eye movement. He serves as Director of Neuro-Ophthalmology at Boston Medical Center and is also an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology and Neurology at Boston University’s Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Dr. Peeler evaluates concerns such as optic nerve swelling (papilledema), optic neuritis, and vision changes associated with conditions like idiopathic intracranial hypertension. He also brings experience in comprehensive eye care, including cataract surgery, and has clinical interests that include visual snow and radiation-related optic nerve injury. In addition to patient care, Dr. Peeler is active as a lecturer, presenter, and mentor, with a focus on clear communication and evidence-based guidance so patients understand their diagnosis and options.

Dr. Rossin is a vitreoretinal surgeon and scientist with Mass Eye and Ear’s Retina Service. She provides medical and surgical care for a wide range of retinal conditions, including retinal detachments, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions, epiretinal membranes, macular holes, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), macular dystrophies, central serous retinopathy, and eye trauma. She earned her MD and PhD through Harvard Medical School and the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology Program, completed residency training in ophthalmology at Harvard Ophthalmology, and went on to a two-year vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. She also served as Chief Resident and Director of the Ocular Trauma Service, helping coordinate emergency eye trauma coverage while teaching and mentoring residents. Her work has been recognized with a K12 Mentored Clinical Scientist Development Program Award from the National Institutes of Health and multiple fellowship honors.

Dr. Emma C. Davies is a cornea and external disease specialist at Massachusetts Eye and Ear who provides personalized, detail-oriented care for patients with corneal and lenticular (lens) conditions. She is experienced in complex cataract surgery and offers advanced surgical options tailored to each patient’s vision goals and eye health. Dr. Davies specializes in partial-thickness corneal transplantation techniques, including Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK) and Descemet Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK), as well as refractive surgery and corneal cross-linking. She brings cutting-edge diagnostic and surgical techniques to her practice and works closely with patients to explain options clearly—from surgical planning through recovery. Her training includes ophthalmology residency at Harvard Medical School and fellowship training at Massachusetts Eye and Ear in cornea, refractive surgery, and external diseases.
