Originally from Rexburg, Idaho, Dr. Hooton graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University-Idaho and attended the University of Washington School of Medicine as an Idaho WWAMI student. He completed ophthalmology training at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and then pursued fellowship training in Cornea, External Diseases and Refractive Surgery at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center. He brings this advanced training to help patients understand their options and feel confident in a clear, step-by-step care plan.

Boise, IDDr. Wyatt Messenger is a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in corneal disease, corneal surgery, and cataract surgery. He completed medical school at Oregon Health & Science University, followed by ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He then pursued a fellowship in corneal diseases and surgeries at the University of Washington, training in the full spectrum of modern corneal procedures. At Hollingshead Barrett Eye Center, Dr. Messenger provides patient-focused care for conditions ranging from keratoconus and Fuchs’ dystrophy to pterygium and complex corneal scarring, and offers cataract surgery with an emphasis on safety, precision, and clear communication. He is committed to helping each patient understand their diagnosis and options, and works closely with the practice’s team to deliver coordinated care and excellent outcomes.

Dr. Brent Betts

Boise, IDDr. Brent Betts is a fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in cornea and anterior segment disease, helping patients with both medical and surgical solutions. His expertise includes routine and complex cataract surgery, advanced refractive options (including LASIK, PRK, ICL, and refractive lens exchange), anterior segment reconstruction, and a wide range of corneal transplantation procedures tailored to each patient’s needs. Originally from Southern California, Dr. Betts earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Reno and his medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine. He completed ophthalmology residency at Wake Forest University Eye Center, serving as chief resident, and then completed a cornea and refractive surgery fellowship at the University of Utah’s Moran Eye Center. He has presented research nationally and has a strong interest in humanitarian outreach, including training surgeons abroad to help reduce preventable blindness.
