Dr. Patton is an ophthalmologist who was born and raised in south Georgia. As the son of a Methodist minister, his childhood was spent in several towns across Georgia including Newington, Americus, Columbus, Waycross and Dublin. It was in Dublin that he decided to pursue a career in medicine, and more specifically ophthalmology, after going on medical mission trips to Jamaica with a group of local ophthalmologists. It was through these experiences that he discovered God's calling on his life to help restore people by restoring their vision. After achieving an undergraduate degree at the University of Georgia with honors, Dr. Patton completed four years of medical school at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia, where he met his lovely wife, Elizabeth, who was born and raised in Blue Ridge. He graduated in the top of his medical school class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society prior to graduation. Upon finishing medical school, he remained in Augusta and trained in a four-year medical and surgical residency in ophthalmology. The Pattons have now relocated to Blue Ridge with the desire to fill an important need for eye care in the area, as Dr. Patton is now the only ophthalmologist practicing full time in Fannin County. They are also very pleased to be living close to their Blue Ridge family and friends. On a personal note, Dr. Patton is a Christian and aims to follow the Lord in all of his endeavors. He believes that it is God's call and purposes that have lead him to start Blue Ridge Mountain Ophthalmology. He is also a husband and father who loves his wife and four children. Dr. Evan Sussenbach is a comprehensive ophthalmologist caring for adults and families in the Columbus area. A Columbus native, he graduated with highest honors from the University of Georgia and earned his MD from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed an internal medicine internship in Nashville and ophthalmology residency at the Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City before joining West Georgia Eye Care Center in 2015.Dr. Sussenbach provides full-service eye care—from routine exams and contact lens evaluations to cataract surgery with premium lens options and management of glaucoma and retinal disease. Dr. Ross Kennamer-Chapman was born and raised in Texas. He obtained his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, where he was elected into both the Alpha Omega Alpha and Gold Humanism Honor Societies. His interest in ophthalmology initially developed from an interest in neuroscience while in medical school. He received a research grant to study in a neuroscience and visual science laboratory. During this time, he was able to learn about the intricate and complex nature of the eye. While on his clinical rotations, he was able to see how the basic science could be translated to patient care and, ultimately, help people with something that is very important to them – their sight. Following medical school, Dr. Kennamer-Chapman pursued ophthalmology residency training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, where he gained invaluable experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of ophthalmic conditions. Recognizing his particular interests in the management of vitreoretinal disease, he went on to complete his vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He has participated in basic science and clinical research, authored peer-reviewed publications, and presented at medical conferences. Dr. Kennamer-Chapman’s commitment to excellence extends beyond academic achievements. While focused on the eyes, he believes in treating each patient as an individual and takes time to understand their unique needs and concerns. Dr. Kennamer-Chapman seeks to collaborate with his patients to develop personalized treatment plans that address their specific medical conditions and goals. Clayton “Clay” Pennington, MD, is a board-certified ophthalmologist who provides surgical and medical eye care for adults. He specializes in cataract surgery and refractive surgery, and he also diagnoses and treats common eye conditions that can affect long-term vision and comfort. He completed undergraduate studies in biological sciences and chemistry at Louisiana State University and earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Nichelle Warren is a board-certified, highly respected, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist who specializes in cataract, refractive and corneal surgery. She remains on the cusp of the latest technologies and research in anterior segment surgeries. As a result of her research she won the Helma Award for outstanding research during her residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Warren received further sub-specialty training in Cornea and Refractive Surgery from Emory University. She is well versed in treating Fuch’s dystrophy and other causes of corneal edema and is one of a few surgeons performing Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK).
